The Otto Brenscheidt GmbH & Co. KGsees itself as service subcontracted electroplating, who not only carries out professional refinement of different products but also provides consulting services in the area of surface treatment and materials inquiries.

Three fully automated electroplating facilities guarantee consistent electroplating with equal layer thickness thus ensuring even surface quality, which can be documented if necessary.

Nickel:

Because of its special chemical and physical features, nickel is a highly valued plating material and is probably the most important one used in electroplating at the moment.
Galvanic nickel plating is used for decorative and anti-corrosive reasons.

Features: Nickel is white, nearly silver with a touch of yellow. It can be polished easily, is very elastic, can be welded and is magnetic. At room temperature it is very resistant to water and air. The following usually applies: the thicker the nickel film, the better the corrosion protection.

Application areas: Automobile industry, shopfitting (wardrobe rails), sanitary industry, fittings, household, radio and television engineering, weapon engineering, metal furnitures, buttons, closings, fashion articles.

We are able to offer you the following nickel platings:

1. High-gloss nickel
This procedure provides the following advantages:
  • bright, high-gloss layers
  • high ductility
  • very smooth (up to 70 %), so grinding and polishing procedures may be reduced considerably.
  • Gloss-depth diffusion
  • An unbeatable double nickel process occurs in combination with our PRE-orion half gloss electrolytes with a potential difference of 80 – 110 mV between the nickel layers.

2. Double nickel (half and full gloss nickel)

The most favourable corrosion behaviour for nickel layers is reached at double nickel layers. First, a nickel layer in adequate thickness is created in a half nickel bath and then nickel plates in a gloss-nickel bath. There should be a potential difference of approx. 100mV between both nickel layers to avoid further corrosion pitting after breakthrough of the glossy nickel layer. A proper half-nickel layer has a more precious potential than the gloss-nickel layer, which is isolated on it. So the half-glossy nickel is protected cathodic. For further enhancement of the corrosion behaviour, this double nickel layer may be combined with a chrome layer. This combination achieves, among others an outstanding corrosion prevention in oxidation atomosphere.



Corrosive atmosphere: This includes country, sea and tropical air. Even in industrial areas with a large amount of free spaces, predominantly corrosive atmospheres may prevail.

3. Decorative matt nickel layers
Pearl nickel (also known as velour or satin nickel)
“Aluminium-Look”

Low glare matt-nickel plating for decorative purposes has entered the market in many industries, since it is also possible to manufacture consistent matt nickel layers by using special additives with the nickel electrolyte.
A constant, matt and fine-grained nickel layer is created. The matt effect can be changed by adding different amounts of pearl builder. Even polished material becomes slightly reflecting and glare-free. In connection with a chrome layer the “aluminium-look” is achieved.

Chrome:

Galvanic chrome plating with underlying nickel plating is a corrosion prevention system which has been used successfully for decades. Chrome forms passive oxidic layers on its surface making it comparable to a noble metal. This corrosion resistance is improved by its ability to repel oil and water.

At Otto Brenscheidt GmbH & Co. KG chrome plating is carried out on series and individual parts.
We are able to offer a layer system, consisting of nickel-chrome for individual parts.

Either the nickel layer system and glossy chrome or on special request the double nickel and glossy chrome plating can be used for series parts.Double nickel plating, consisting of half or full gloss nickel in combination with the glossy chrome layer provides excellent corrosion prevention and at the same time acts as a decorative surface protection..
